Default Kohler kt 17 valve question

I have a series II motor that I am going to pull the valves out, clean and put back in. I know to make sure I put them back in the proper place they came from (exhaust or intake)My question is does the valve have to be in the same position as when it was taken out? Also what works best to remove carbon from valve chambers?

Just put them back in the cylinder they were removed from. They can rotate by themselves when the engine is running. I can't remember if the KTs have exhaust valve rotators or not. A brass wire wheel, plastic scraper, and razor blade work good to remove carbon.

Your probably going to want to buy a valve spring compressor to get the valve in and out. That job would be a real bear without one. Search e-bay for a small engine valve spring compressor and you'll find them. As far as putting the keeper back in, I turned the engine so that the valves were vertical and that will allow the keepers to fall into place.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
