JD:

The tractor was made in March 1968.

The motor was made in 1968 also.

A CC 105 would have had a K-241.

SO....either someone in 1968 transplanted a K-301 into the 105.....OR
you have a 125 (12HP) that someone transplanted a 105 pedestal (with decal) on it.

Guys,

Got into the 105 today. While trying to start it I discovered a hopelessly dead battery and got that changed out. Next I discovered that the carb had a leaky gasket. Now that is on the "to get list".

The thing that has me stumped is the slow rate of revolutions the engine turns while starting. It is so slow that I don't see how it would ever fire. Not only is it slow it does not spin evenly through each revolution. It goes fast then slows almost to a stop.

For an example of how slow it turns, imagine a 12 volt starter hooked to a 6 volt battery. No, the new battery is 12 volts and is fully charged. I also hooked it to a jumper box as well. Still slow.

The tractor has spark and compression.

Any ideas?

Also, where would I get the most reasonably priced repair parts such a an engine rebuild kit?

The first thing I would do is check your ground connections, followed by the connections to the starter/generator itself. A bad ground or bad ground wire will cause all sorts of issues.

As far as engine parts, I have bought a lot of stuff from Tulsa Engine Warehouse (http://tewarehouse.com/Catalog/055) They have both aftermarket and discount-priced OEM parts.

These engines with the starter generators don't turn over like a normal Bendix style starter. I don't know guys,,,,,,,what about one revolution per second. Matt is right. Check the grounds. You can take a pair of jumper cables and go straight from the battery to the positive lug on the starter then take the negative cable and ground it to the starter housing. See how it turns over. Leave the ignition switch off so as not to play havoc with the charging system.

For parts, Here too. Been using their stuff for 15 yrs. No problems yet. Ask for the catalog. You'll be fine on this old Cub. They are as we used to call the DC-8,, a Stone ax !

Are those OEM Kohler parts, or aftermarket? If they're the former, that's an excellent deal.

Matt, they are aftermarket. I was skeptical 15 yrs ago when an old Puller told me about them and handed me a catalog. I ask him ,,,how good are these parts ? He pointed to his 16 horse solid billet head ,super modified and told me. They are in that engine. Haven't torn it down in 3 seasons. Wish I could remember his name. It was the southern tier pulling club in Geneseo NY.

That engine spec number is from and IH tractor, just don't know which one.
