782 rear end going out
My 782 rear is starting to make all kinds of noise and is starting to get slow I changed the oil and the filter and still having the issue. Do they make a replacement rear for these tractors or is it better to part ways with it

What kind of noise is it making? Is it a whining sound? What filter did you use?

Is it the differential that is making noise or the hydro assembly?
The setup you have is pretty sturdy and rarely gives trouble, unless you are abusing it or tractor pulling with it. If you go into some detail as to the what and when the noise occurs we might be able to help you. If you have a nice 782, it is worth fixing by all means. |

It's a whining noise and I used cub cadet filter. When it's about half throttle it'll barely move

It sounds like the hydro.
When you pulled the cover to drain the oil, was it clean or sludged up, was the oil milky? was there metal particles in the housing Was the filter/oil changed recently? |

Does it work better in one direction then the other?

Did you change the oil & filter recently to correct the problem you have now?
Or was it changed a while back in time as routine maint. if a while back, change the filter. |

Sounds like the hydro failing, not the "rear end" going out. Rear end would refer to the differential, not the hydrostatic transmission.
You can investigate further, or buy a good used. Ported hydro's can be purchased for about $100-$150 depending on the guy selling. Avoid the ones over $200. Those people are insane. Put up a wanted ad on this site, watch ebay, check with the our sponsors at the top of the page, or take a peek at craigslist. In your case it is probably best just to start over than to try and fix it. However, it may be repairable if you want to attempt it, state that. But we are going to need to hear the noise it's making, and you are going to have to do some diagnostic work. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
