Default KT Serial Number

The numbers are only worn off of the tag (decal)from the engine.Unless I can find numbers anywhere else?I have a good tag on the tractor frame. So since it has a spin on oil filter that makes it a Series II?Thanks

There are more differences. The KT-17 has points and a coil, and the M18 has a magneto, so there are extra holes in the KT-17 block. I *think* the KT Series II and Magnum case CASTINGS are the same, but they are machined differently to accommodate the difference in ignition. I think there are some other minor differences mentioned in the manual, but I can't remember what they are. What are you referring to as the 'bearing plate'? There isn't a bearing plate on these engines like there is on the K-series single cylinders. Are you talking about the case end cover on the PTO end?

Klejeune:

As Bill previously posted....not all KT17 Series II have the Remote Oil Filter options. We exactly know what we are talking about because I have a 1984 and Bill has a 1985 KT-17 Series II that have NO provision on either.

Only "some of the Series II had that provision. From what I have seen and read, there seems to be no rhyme nor reason for the option.

Rolland,
Are you correcting me, or agreeing with me?

My first post on this topic HERE I said SOME have the filter provision and my second post just up above I confirmed that if it DOES have a filter it has to be series II as no Series I had filter provisions.

Does anyone here commonly over service the Series II?

I know I had one launch right after I got it in my 1711 (and it was full).

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
