1811 blowing fuses
My 1811 keeps blowing fuses. After putting a new one in, tractor runs for about 5 minutes and then the engine dies.
Not sure what to check for. Grounds are good, battery is good. |

Does the fuse blowing have anything to do with the PTO engaged...???

No R Bedell. It's independent of the PTO being engaged or the lights on or anything that would cause a electrical load on the system.

The 1811 has a magneto so it's doesn't require any power to stay running, not sure how a fuse blowing could kill the engine.

Without any load (ie: PTO or Lights), it sounds like a hot wire is grounding out to some source.
This is a situation where a meter (VOM or DVM) is required and start examining wires and measuring resistance until the culprit is uncovered.

Wiring diagrams here, page 2-55 or 2-59 depending on your tractor's s/n.
http://www.onlycubcadets.net/pdf/772-3899.pdf Like Olds said, you don't need the fuse to keep running. You might try starting it and then removing the fuse to see if the fuse blowing is killing the engine or it is something else entirely and the fuse is a coincidence. |

Thankyou ironman, excellent trouble-shooting technique. I'm going to finish putting the tractor back together today. Had transmission relief valves rebuilt and removed seat pan to make easier access. Painted pan while it was off needs to be re-assembled.
I'll keep you posted as to progress. |

1811 doesn't have a fuel solenoid, unless the engine has been replaced with one that does. If that is the case, extra wiring has been added outside of the OEM harness and may be causing an issue.

If I had that problem, I would take my old headlight bulb with clip leads attached and clip it on the fuse holder. When the short happens the bulb lights up. If trouble shooting a 120 volt circuit, I use a 100w bulb. Sure saves blowing fuses.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
