Mines louder than a mag. Just a little.

The one I have barks a bit. Pretty sure the muffler has seen better days, it's only about 20 years old, you'd think they should last at least 40-50 years.

Just a FYI those mufflers are Cub only mufflers and they know how to charge for them.

MUFFLER KOHLER V 751-3110
Price $275.57 Cub cadet price

$243.00 https://www.cubcadetpartsnmore.com/m...-kohler-v.html

I wonder if the muffler from a GT/X 2000 series can be fit with some "Home brew" heat shield and a bit a work on the output pipe? It's a good $100 cheaper brand new! If I had one I sure give it a try (Part number:751-11785)

Thanks for all the info guys. I'll try to address the issue this winter. After some searching, Sam is right that this thing is a Cadet exclusive. Now assuming the pipes are good, I may look around for a candidate to undergo some adapting. Only way I will do it is if it bolts in correct with all shields in place. Got some other things on this Cadet that need attention as well, so I'll keep you guys informed of what I try/do concerning the muffler.

Mine sounds pretty nice. It has a nice mellow tone even at full throttle. I took an old KT17 muffler and relocated the intake holes to match the Command ports on the engine. I bolted the muffler to the engine then just fitted up the piping from the engine to the muffler and welded everything together. Very pleased with the sound. The price Cub Cadet wants for a new muffler is crazy. It forced me into an alternate route.

I tried a supplier for the exhaust on a Command. He wouldn't sell the exhaust and shroud alone. Had to buy whole engine to get that stuff. That's when I decided to fab up my own.

I wouldn't buy anything from him again.
Todd I have been to Ray's many many times over the last 7 or 8 years bought many parts sold him tractors and never had an issue. I have returned parts several times with no problem. Always been good experience. Suprised to hear you had bad experience.

Good for you.
I know of two other active members that have had issues with him. And neither one of us will be sending money his way...
I can understand that he made a mistake. Tell me one thing over the phone, and send me something else, well that don't fly with me.
But when the guy doesn't return my emails, texts and phone messages, to me that's piss poor business practice. And I won't deal with or recommend someone like that to others. And "if" they have the same experience as I did, who recommended him? Me.
Ain't happening.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
