Default My 1450 Adventure

Hey guys!

Had been thinking for a while now on what to do with my 1450. It's my favorite IH Cub Cadet ( honestly all four of mine are my favorite )! There happens to be a weird noise coming from the trans axle...... whether this noise is from the drive line and related components, or the hydro pump unit, or the cast iron trans axle portion of the assembly, my objective is to inspect all of this with a fine-tooth comb to find out this problem. My method of repair will be determined on what is found.

Tonight, I removed all the sheet steel on my 1450. I will start to document and make upgrades to it. I will be following the BRSM closely, as it will help me to properly understand, and translate parts, functions, and correct assembly steps. I have put some thought into this, so I'm hoping to have a good documentation. The last goal is to clean the tractor, and assemble. I will continue to carry the IH 38" three-blade mower deck on the tractor, but I'm not going to use it. There are a few small things needed repaired. I have purchased a fair sum of parts and components for the drive line back to the rear wheels.

This will be a slow thread. I will post a lot of information. My thread will not drop off and fade to black. I don't plan to paint any parts as of yet, but that could change. Despite this unusual noise, everything about it works and functions fantastic, which is a good way to start this project.

May I suggest posting a 'before picture" of the 1450. You've seen it all too many times---a beautifully fixed up machine, but nobody knows what you started with. I know you SAID no paint, but until it leaves the shop just as faded and rusty as it came in, although I imagine you'll give it a good bath while it is torn down, well, you know the rest.

There is an impressive OCC thread on a Quiet Line with about 56K views,..... my adventure thread will not come close to that! Ha!

Default My 1450 Master Plan

* Remove all sheet steel: inspect and clean.

* Remove engine: notice any gaskets that may need replaced, complete cleaning and check the torque of the oil pan bolts.

* Check new ISO mounts and engine cradle for wear.

* Check cradle snubbers and reset the gap.

* Clean engine bay, frame, and front axle components.

* Clean and grease front wheels and spindles.

* Swap out starter for a better one that "catches" every turn of the key.

* Repair/mount wires to headlamps.

* Get new ISO lock nuts.

* Clean rear tires & rims-install new 1/4" off set rim spacers.

* Currently has a QL1250 i.d tag-swap out for a 1450 i.d tag since engine will be removed.

* Drill two 5/32" holes into the rear lift to install two press-in grease zerks.

*Transmission : Find out where noise is coming from.

* upgrade to dual disk drive line.

* Install new drive flange.

* Install all new gaskets and seals.

* Upgrade to automatic check valves.

* Remove axle carriers-inspect bearings.

* Swap out two IH stamped rear cover bolts for the correct WP monogram bolts.

* Might add an extra snap ring to the hydro fan to secure it better.

* Reline the rear caliper brake pads.

I'm sure I will find more to do

Default A little Back Ground History About My 1450

I got my 1450 around April 20, 2014. It happened have a good six pad seat, with out many cracks, and still looked black as coal. The front headlamps worked great, and the rear tail lamps worked too! However, the headlamp switch was not the original switch. I happen to luck out to find an original headlamp switch specific to the Quiet Line model. The rear tail light lens were both cracked. I saved those when I stumbled upon a nice, original set that I replaced the cracked lens with.

The 1450's front engine power take off device worked just fine, as well as the Maintenance Minder, which registers up to six hundred hours of operation. I have a nice IH insignia amp meter as well that functions accordingly. The ignition switch was replaced with a new Cub Cadet switch before I received the tractor. I also found a neat IH stamped cut out ignition key! Everything my 1450 rolled out of the factory with, still works to this day! That's a well built machine to have stood this on-going, testament of time.

I found that all of the engine tin was badly destroyed. I gained used engine tin for the Kohler K321 AQS that was in nearly perfect function from other Quiet Line tractor parts. I even found a nice condition muffler, and a belly pan with no cracks or broken tabs. My 1450 came with a rear lift, but no sleeve hitch.
