Your serial number is very close to mine.

Ended up stranded up at my sister's this weekend, where this guy is stored, so I thought I'd do a few things to it.

Put the rebuilt carb on it, and after a bit of fiddling, and a good charging of the battery, it fired right up (after tinkering with the starter - gonna have to rebuild that at some point).

Needs the carb adjusted and a really good cleaning, and a bunch of little things, but a functional 782 for about 200 bucks total isn't bad at all.

It was also pretty jerky and the hydro lever needed a lot of travel to go forward or backwards, so I'm guessing a fluid and filter change, and probably a trunion repair is in my future on this guy as well.

Also it looks like the right side tin is a little wonky. Not sure what's going on there.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
