Default Lighter Socket Power Outlet Inquiry
I am working on a non-Cadet machine for my B-I-L as he will be using the machine for specific blade work, no mowing. The engine is a 10 hp Magnum. I am also making a new wiring harness for the machine since the old one is crumbled. With that being said, I am "considering" working in a female lighter socket power outlet for the use of charging a cell phone while he is working. If I proceed, I will be placing it in the dash panel and rework the pto switch hole (no longer needed). I assume this will work but do not know for certain thus why I am asking those whose intelligence and experience is far greater than my own. Is this feasible, not recommended, is there a specific one I need to look for (marine, waterproof, amp draw, etc)?

As long as the tractor is 12v it will work just fine. Amp is limited by the plug you put into it, not by the socket. You can pick up a universal outlet at just about any parts store.

Just make sure you put an in-line fuse on the positive side, if all you plan to do with it is charge a phone you shouldn't need more than a 5amp fuse.

How is that relevant?
Still 12v input at less than 5amps.....

Actually.... they use ~5V for charging. Usually ~1A for a phone and ~2A for something larger, like a tablet. The 5V requirement comes from the USB standard voltage. But that is produced by the transformer on the end of the charging cord, regardless of input voltage.
