CH16 missing spring from governor to throttle plate?
Great Forum. Just got a well used 2166. $300. Ive searched the forums cant find an answer to a very specific question. What keeps the throttle from going wide open? Seems to be missing. wont idle unless i physically twist the throttle plate back with my finger. Is there a roughly 3" spring that goes from the top of the governor arm to the little hole on the top of the throttle plate? Ill try to add some pictures after work if that would help. Thanks

Thanks for the reply. Yes Im missing #13 (linkage spring). Found a spring off a push mower I hope will work. My compression test showed 60psi and my Harbor Freight leak down tester showed both the valves were closing tight. Bogs down bad under load. After cleaning the carb I found 2 small fuel leaks: fuel filter near the tank and fuel pump outlet. Ordered the parts to replace all the fuel lines, filter and pump. Hoping that gets me mowing. Again thanks for the replies hoping all my future posts are just me mowing with a giant smile on my face.

All that #13 does is act as a "buffer" spring. It keeps the linkage all tight so that the engine doesn't surge because of worn linkage. It will run without it.
When it comes to governors and springs, no matter whether it's the governor spring, or a buffer spring, just any spring won't do. Take the one you found and go put it back on the shelf and order the correct one. Otherwise you may develop other issues, or even cause the governor to malfunction.
