Default Gt1554

Hi all, this my first post on here and look forward for some great responses. My Cub Cadet GT1554 will not start. It sat for awhile so the battery needed a charge. But now will not start at all. Can't figure out why. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Chuck

How long did it sit? Did you have some sort of fuel stabilizer in the fuel to keep it from going bad? Does it turn over good? Check to see if you're getting spark.

If you have a fuel shut off solenoid I understand they will get stuck in the off position if left to sit.

All engines need 2 things to run. Fuel and spark. Take a spare spark plug and pull a plug wire off and put it on the spare plug. Ground it to the engine and see if you get a spark when you try to start it. If so you've got a fuel problem. If you left it sitting with fuel in it over the winter that may be the problem. many parts of the country now use gas with 10% ethanol in it. This is known as E10. If it sits for more than about 60 days it can absorb enough water from the air to cause the water alcohol mix to separate from the gas. Bottom of tank as a mix of water + alcohol which won't start an engine and on top of that is stale low octane gas that won't start an engine. This happened to me last year with my boat. You'll need to drain this fuel and dispose of it in a safe manner. Then refill the tank with fresh fuel. I'd add a little seafoam to the tank as well. probably a good idea to pull the float bowl on the carb and clean that as well.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
