GT2544 Mower Deck Retainer Spring Position
Hi, I'm looking for a little help for what position the deck retainer is supposed to be, relative to the spring itself. Specifically, is the little peg on the end of the retainer supposed to be inside the loop on the end of the spring.
Exactly the same issue as this guy was having in this thread on another site, but I don't see that anyone answered him: http://www.arkansashunting.net/showt...89#post2375589 Thanks much, Peter |

Well, logically that made sense, but I have no repair manual to confirm, so I thought I'd check with you all. My retainer broke. I want to put it back together correctly. The guy in the other link was having trouble with it breaking too, so again, just wanted to double check . . . Thanks.

Any chance you're using the wrong length belt? In my experience, those springs hold up very well for years and years. |

Mike, the retainer broke. I did just get a new belt from an authorized Cub dealer, and then the retainer broke after 3 hours of use. So, yes, I'll need to double check the belt for sure. Thanks for your help.

Retainer meaning #27 in the diagram in the link you posted? Does that mean your spring didn't break too?

Yep #27! This piece. Broke in two.
http://assets.partstree.com/web4/pho...b1f20/full.png I double checked the belt I picked up. Looks to be correct. Must be something else going on. Any suggestions for what to check? |

Yes, the diagram on the deck is very clear. And actually, I didn't change that belt - I changed the drive main drive belt. That one is even easier.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
