If you dig around, one of our members cut the bad hub out of his impeller and replaced it but he had access to all the cool equipment and the ability to do it.

I have a bunch of "cool" equipment and could repair but would need the correct splined bushing to do it.

Problem with these blowers is the main gear box is NLA. Impellers can be bought or fixed.

You'd be surprised what else uses the same parts though. Like the augers, impeller, worm gear drive in the auger drive gearbox..... A lot of the parts inside the gearbox (bushings, shafts) can be made. The gears would be expensive, but could be gotten.

Am going to study this a bit to see if I can pull it off on my 'not as cool' equipment. We will see, stay tuned.

If you repair the old impeller, see if you can get someone to balance it. I has a buddy who runs a shop balance my impeller with the machine he uses to balance driveshafts. Much smoother. You'd be surprised really.

Electric motor repair shops have balancers, so do places that repair pumps.
Just to help the search

More to come, but out of town for a bit before I can get back to it.

Whats needed?

There is an adjustment bolt missing from the top of the gear box which simply pushes it away from the housing. Which if that is meant to be an adjuster would suggest it should naturally want to pull/tilt the opposite to this. So doesnt seem like the first problem (but likely the next problem)

The idler adjuster spring seems pretty strong and could have been replaced with one too strong. Doesnt look original.

Other than belt length, and spring tension, I dont see any other adjustments. And belt length really only needs to be long enough to reach when slack, then the spring tension should set the belt tension...

And if belt tension is too high might not be good for bearings (on the engine nor the gear box)

I should fix it. Insights?
Yeeter, your gear box looks like that because your missing Item #15 in the photo below. It's the locator pin that keeps the gear box parallel to the back of the blower housing.

Those are the correct splined couplers. Just some advise. When you go to turn down the OD on a lathe to press into the blower fan, make sure to chuck it up so the ID of the splined coupler runs true in the lathe. The OD and ID of the couplers I've seen are not true to each other.

Finally got to re-splining this. Too large to swing on my lathe so had to bore it, some light cuts made do.

Think I had the wrong belt on it, and also no #15 as sbauerz points out.

Will pay attention putting it back together to be sure its fully engaged and lined up.

Pics before welding.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
