SIMS Cab Refurb - 1872

Rick, the cab looks great! I've never finished mine up like I want. Winter is only going to give us cold weather here this year, so I'm not even putting it on this year. I think this makes two years now that I haven't even mounted a blade or blower or the cab. Another reason I haven't made it "nice"... I don't use it every year.

Did the cab foam you used have the vinyl face material on it? You can order it with the facing. I used to keep it. I can give you a link to a company that carries it if you need it. I've done several cabs. Doing one now on a 6588 International. It will get the whole works in the original western interior.

Jonathan, I did use the foam with the vinyl attached. It was more work than I expected, trimming and folding over the edges, but turned out to be worth it. Looks like you have a major cab project. You gonna use the prefab panels for that one?

I have to get this one finished up. I think I'll give her a new pair of boots too...Firestone ribs I've had waiting.

On a tractor, prefab is the only way to go. Unless it isn't available. I've done it on custom projects, and machines that a kit wasn't available on, by hand with bulk material. It's very time consuming. I understand the time you spent. Even this job is a chore. Cleaning all the old adhesive off is worse than any project where everything is new, with new paint. Plus, this cab has a hydraulic seat, which was leaking... so I've got that mess to clean up too. I'll try and start a thread on it just because it's cool.

Those hydraulic seats are insanely heavy, hopefully you can find the leak without removing the seat base. We converted our 1086 and 5488 over to air seats after the hydraulic suspensions wore out.

I gutted the cab already. Seat and all. The cylinder is leaking out the top. They want to try and rebuild it. I would just convert it to an air seat if I owned it.

Not trying to derail the thread, just asking a question. Does the padding help considerably with noise or is it more for insulating against heat and cold? Reason I ask is I have an old Deere combine with all of the padding gone. Most was in the ceiling. Just wondering if it would help considerably with noise levels. In my case there was none against the engine firewall.

Makes a huge difference in noise levels John.
I'm sure it insulates too, but the padding was more for acoustics (vibration noise).

That's what I thought but wanted to make sure before I "get around" to replacing it.

I ran the tractor today. With the insulation on the ceiling and a little on the doors it is less than half the noise of my old cozy cab that didn't have insulation. I had to use ear plugs with the cozy on a 149. I will get some pictures of the finished product later. Got new LED lights mounted but have to wire up a new fuse panel, mount the ag tires, and put on the new decals.

Might get a little snow tonight...I'm ready.
