I have a 1A tiller ( one extension ) and it cuts gardens into turf without a problem using my 125. It does take two or three passes to get to full depth but works well.
I have 4 seasons ( total of 15 gardens ) using NAPA belts. |

Depending on the size of your lavender patch I would go with a walk behind tiller like a Troy-Built tiller. I own a #2 tiller on a IH Cub Cadet 128 and a Troy-Built horse tiller. I have better control of the Troy-Built tiller than my rear mount IH tiller.
My soil is hard pack clay soil. It may take a little longer with the Troy-Built....The Troy-Built does a better job all around than the Cub Cadet tiller. If you are set on a tiller for your 122 I would go with a IH Cub Cadet tiller. Tillers are good at pushing your tractor. The DR one looks like it hitches up pull behind type implement does. The tiller could jackknife your rig real quick if you aren't careful.

I've used IH rear mounted tillers and a walk behind. I'd rather sit and drive so I chose the rear mounted tiller. I also would say an IH tiller because you are using the tractors engine and not another external one like with a tow behind.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
