Default Another primer question

Do any of you or has anyone ever used hardner in their primer? Read online somewhere where they were talking about using hardner in with their primer. I was curious. thanks brian

on one type of primer you do, can't remember if it's 1k or 2k... it should say on your primer can what or if you mix it. One of them gets thinned out, and the other gets hardener added. that's speaking of automotive type primer.

Interesting, considering what hardener does, I never thought of adding it to primer.

Hardener has always made my paint shine more, would that possibly be a negative effect!!??

The next coat might not "bond" as well to a high shine surface.

I love how hard the paint gets with hardener,

this tractor would have looked like without it!!

That is a 4 year old paint job!! With non-automotive, equipment paint.

My primer doesn't say use hardner, just thinner. I had never heard of using hardner with primer either. I thought the same as CADplans it would have the affect of the top coat not adhering to the primer like it should. Thanks guys for the fast response!..Brian

Some auto paint systems use primer with hardener. PPG 'Shop Line' is one that does this. If it doesn't say to use hardener with the primer, I wouldn't.

I use epoxy primer and it is a 2 part system, primer and activator(hardener). It creates a chemical bond to the metal and also creates a very durable sub coat for paint. I use PPG omni products.

all 2k primers take a hardener. they are a high build primer. the kind you mix a reduser with is just a etching primer/ low build. aka (junk primer) my 0.02

you can use reduser in 2k primers and make a sealer out of it before you paint.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
