Key switch broke.
Broke my original key off in my 106, any ideas on a somewhat similar replacement?
I like old stuff and don't mind using what will repair it quickly, It's old but value is a barely running classic that I like. It's a toy with no job duties, my old Snapper RER is for cutting grass! Anyone have any ideas on ballpark price for rebuilding SG? That needs done as well, I live in South Florida, just thought I would ask. Thanks. Kevin |

Ignition switches are still available new from CCC or Case IH.
S/G rebuild varies on what it needs. Unless it's really bad, $60- $80 (or less) should cover it. I spent $120 on one, but it got a new rear bearing plate and pulley. I would have taken used, but they didn't ask like they were supposed to. I had told them I had others on the shelf if "hard" parts were needed. Don't kick the key getting on and off. Swing your leg instead of stepping through. |

Thank you J-mech, just going slow and thorough, as I have aged, it just doesn't pay to rush.

Don't know if you are trying to keep as much original look as possible, but look up the original IH part number, not the replacement MTD#, and see if Steiner has a replacement. Just a tip on keeping originality.

Any chance of using a pick or 2 and getting the broken key out? I’ve had luck many times doing this. It’s worth a shot, if it works then just get a new key.

It's not a complicated key or a complicated lockset. I broken off one key and lost another.
And still found another similar key that works off of the old key chain in the kitchen drawer. You might be lucky.

Save that piece you dug out, do like Billy-O sez up above. Find something that looks similar and use a jeweler's file to shape it like the piece. I had one once that was using an old GM (Chevy) key. God helps those who help themselves!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
