Default Cyclone Rake Commercial Pro

Last fall I bought a Cyclone Rake Commercial Pro. I know there are other makes and models of leaf collectors and I cannot advocate one over the other as I have no experience with any other units. I will say that I am happy with my purchase. I ordered it late in the fall and received a healthy discount.

The unit was delivered promptly. Assembly was quick and I was cleaning up the wet and frozen leaves promptly.

I did have my boys raking along with me to get the edges and loosen the frozen stuff. I was very happy with the performance of the unit and know that come this fall, cleanup will be even easier as I will be going at it earlier in the season.

Lately, I’ve been using the Cyclone Rake as a grass catcher. I have some areas that are in need of mulch and the grass clippings have been working quite well.

The only thing, thus far, that I have been unhappy with, is the manner in which the unit attaches to my tractor. This type of leave vac attaches in a semi rigid manner to the rear axle housing. Thus, creating an extension to the frame of the tractor, which, at the rear, rides on casters. The front of the leaf vac frame has two “forks”, which attach, using two hitch pins, to a draw bar plate that is supplied. This setup allows for enough play to accommodate uneven terrain while keeping the unit rigid along the length of the tractor.

I really did not care for all of that weight and torque being placed on the bottom three bolts, or in my case studs.

So, I made a hitch adapter from some;

½” x 2” flat stock
2” x 2” x 3/8” angle
½” black pipe

This adapter allows me to utilize the added strength of my “Extreme” hitch and also quickly move the vac to other tractors. In my case, between the 1450 and 1650. Initially I was going to use pins that I made from some ½” bolts but decided that a couple of 3/8” wired hitch pins worked even better as they were easier to install on uneven ground and allowed some additional play between the tractor and the leaf vac frame. Time will tell how this all turns out but for now I am quite happy. Use at your own risk.

Looks great.
I got a trac vac with a 125 awhile back. The old guy that had it used two blades per spindle, 90deg offset. I've never tried it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
