Blade subframe mount
Hey all!
Pretty new to the Cub Cadet world, but I needed a mower, and my dad had bought a 125 a few years back that wasn't being used, so I hauled it home. And also picked up a 127. I can be a bit obsessive I guess. This probably isn't the best hobby for me. Anyway, I ran across a blade that I couldn't pass up, and was told it was for a narrow frame (and it sort of looked like it from what I can tell, based on the QA pins). When I got it home, I couldn't get it to bolt on to the 125. So I started measuring. Can anyone tell me what I've got here? I THINK it's a homemade wide frame modification, but I haven't seen anything quite like this around. The ~28" measurement is from the front of where the shaft would slide over the implement lift cross bar thing, if anyone is wondering. It looks to be ~3" short of fitting into the QA slot, and ~2" wider than the front of my frame. If it is that, am I better off trying to find a new subframe, selling this and trying to find a narrow frame, modifying this to fit a narrow frame, or buying a wide frame cub? Thanks for the help! |

There is something with the Sub Frame. That is NOT typical of a NF sub frame. That offset is strange.

I think my mule drive on my 682 might have that funky bend.

IMO someone took a N/f QA subframe and modified the one side, for some unknown reason. (some sort of PO added lift cylinder? dunno.) Normally the sub frame ends that attach to the rock shaft are the same on both sides (see Jeff in PAs post) and it mounts on the outside of the A brackets that hold on the rock shaft outside the tractor frame.

Thanks for the feedback guys. If they modified it, they also made it longer from the rock shaft attachment part to the front QA pins.
I dunno. I'd hack it back into the "normal" subframe if it's no great loss, but if it's a direct fit for a wide frame, I might be money (and time) ahead just passing this on and picking up a functional narrow frame one. |

Here is a pic I just took of the blade on my 108, WF I think. One minor modification I think that I am going to make on mine, is lengthening the tops of the tips of the frame, so that you are not trying to line up four thing simultaneously. I want to be able to get the tips sitting up on the back support bar under the frame, and then line up and slide on the front support. Having to do this solo and mostly one armed, it just isn't fun....

A block under the front of the subframe does wonders.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
