QA-36 snow blower part problem.
The chain driving the rotor broke today and I can't find a part number or source for a new one. Ideas anyone?

Yes take the chain to a local Farm and Family store or whatever kind of farm store you have and buy a roll of chain and make your own. Pretty sure it #40 chain. Nothing special.

QA36 chain
Drive chains should have their size stamped on the side of the links. I don't recall if the QA36 drive chain is #30, or#40, but the correct number should be found on your old chain. I think the length including the master link is 39ā. Measure your old one. A local tool and industrial supply here in Maine will cut to order. Modern motorcycle chains generally have āoā ring seals , and Iām not sure that is necessary,or adviseable in this application. Good luck, Steve

Motorcycle chains are usually metric, it uses a stand #40 roller chain not a metric chain.
IH,JD or other farm tractor dealers stock Chain also. ---Don't ever remember a #30 chain usually 25, (small) 35, 40,42, 50, 60,80, 120. are the common ones in the roller chain family. TSC, Family farm/home stores are common suppliers |

Thanks guys. It is a #40. A simple fix is with just a master link. I'd like to replace the whole chain but all I can find is 10 foot lengths.

FWIW: if you don't know, the master link clip opening or cotter pin opening (if cotter pin style) should trail the direction of rotation. Why? so if it contacts an object like a stick it will not be flicked off. It happens quite often where debris is encountered. IE: trail or motorcycle biking ---BTDT. |

Thanks for the tip on the clip direction, hopefully the snow won't have any junk in it. This blower is on a Model 72 tractor so I can't complain about a chain that lasted 50 years.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
