Engine wouldn't shut off.
I have a 42inch ZRT mower. I removed the engine cover to clean up some grime and used air pressure to clean around the carb. With the cover off, I started the engine. Then used the key switch to shut down. Engine still running. Got off the seat, expecting its safety switch to shut down to engine. Nope. I finally got it shut off using the lever arm sticking up thru the slot that holds the governing mechanism. There is a white wiring socket next to the front deck of the engine that was not seated completely. That fixed the problem. FYI. Any suggestion on how to stop the engine otherwise?

Oh, I don't know.....
You could pull the choke or shut off the gas. |

Ok,
lets put it another way. Shut off the gas, or let it run till the tank goes dry. Remove the plug wire (S) with an insulated fuse puller. Pull the choke lever, or remove the air cleaner and stuff a rag in the carb intake. Remove the carb. if the exhaust system is tight, plug it up with shovel handle if the right size. If it were a gear drive, I would suggest putting it in gear and gently let the clutch out @ idle in high gear to stall it. About all I can think of. |

Well I originally said to pull the plug wires off bare handed AS A JOKE but someone apparently thought I was serious.

I'd make sure my hands were good and wet first.

I did that once when I was a kid, just to see what would happen. The wire was insulated, what the heck. Found out real quick. I did a lot of dumb stuff that gave me a good education.

Most everyone who has turned wrenches much has been bitten.... and still remembers it, lol. I know I have... several times. I got bit adjusting a distributor once because either the cap had a crack, or a wire was bad. I still hesitate to grab a distibutor when adjusting timing.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
