K321 balancing gears
I'm am currently rebuilding a k321 and was wondering if taking the balancing gears out would damage anything or potentially cause damage to anything?

Nope remove them. I don't reinstall them in any motor.

Another question. I have a 5 gallon bucket of flash solvent that I would like to put my block in but I don't want to take out my crank bearing as it is still good and run the risk of damaging it. Do you think it would be fine submerged for a day?

my bigger concern would be depositing all the crap that the solvent would dislodge, into the bearing..... simply soaking the bearing in the solvent wont hurt it as the splash of fresh oil as soon as the engine takes off upon its 1st start would take care of the lube issue, bearings are pretty "confined spaces" and would potentially hold a bunch of filings and such....
they aren't rocket science to remove, it would be a safer bet. I see those gears in about 50% of the engines that I get into and I too leave them out if I find them. and once running again don't really notice that they made much if any difference in how smooth the engines run. the bigger concern is if the bearings that support those balance gears fail (and they do) the remnants will take out the rest of your engine. and after all that work, I certainly would not want that. |

Take the bearings out. Removing it isn't hard at all, and doesn't damage them.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
