Mulcher for 1864 w/46" deck
Hi:
I am new to this forum. Just picked up nice 1864 with 46" (190-321-100) deck and 451 snow blower. I would like to use it for mulching leaves. Will the top and side plates for cub cadet 315 42" mulcher attachment fit the 46" deck? About $70 for both.I tried a friends plastic mulch plate for Lt1042. Might work for a lot less? |

According to the Cub Cadet Matrix Chart, there was NO mulcher kit available for the 190-321-100 46" Mower deck.
The 190-315-100 was soled used on the 190-320-100 42" deck. Now, there is nothing to say you can't do some modifying and adapt it.

Most mower decks can be used for mulching.
All one has to do if bend a piece of metal and bolt it in the discharge area of the deck, essentially preventing anything from escaping. It need not be pretty of a tight fit, a fingers width between it and the discharge chute is just fine. I've seem them made from scrap metal including license plates A set of gator blades makes it a perfect setup. Mow higher than you would for just grass, and the dryer the leaves, the better/easier they become invisible. Much better to mow/mulch often, then to let them accumulate. |

Before J-mech tells you Gator blades are not high lift blades I will LOL.. J-Mech does have a huge amount of knowledge when it comes to proper fitment of blades and decks and the best solutions for what blades to put on what decks for desired effect. I would ask him about it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
