Shifter is now ready to be reassemble. Install shifter lever into shifter housing making sure pin in shifter housing is in slot that is in the shifter cup as shown in the above picture. Place shifter housing in vise with bottom side facing up. Place gear shift guide as soon in the picture. The guide will only go one way.

Use a hammer and gently tap the gear shift guide into place. Tap on both sides of the gearshift guide.

Gear Shift guide will be seated when the tab on the gear shift guide is seated against the gear shift housing.

Turn shifter right side up and place shifter in vise as shown lightly clamping on the ball of the shifter.

Install the following parts in this order: Gear Shift Cover, Retainer, Spring, Retainer. Compress the spring enough to be able to reinstall the swivel spring retainer pin. Use a vise grips to keep the spring compress as shown.

Install swivel spring retainer pin centering on gear shift lever.Release vise grips and allow the pin to fit inside the retainer as shown.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
