Default 1572 Project

Hey everyone,

Just picked up a 1572 project (currently not running) and looking for some feedback. I am familiar with the diesel platform and have worked extensively on the 7.3 Powerstroke in particular, I'm assuming the concept is pretty similar . I'd like to find manuals for the 1572 and the Kubota D600 engine. Any experts with this tractor know where I should begin?

I plan to flush the diesel and clean the tank. Change the oil, change all the filters, and also make sure the radiator is clean and not plugged up, then go from there.

Any caveats to this tractor I should be aware of before I dive in? I'm excited to get started on this project and appreciate all of your comments!

There's a technical section on this site, the link above is the tractor manual.

Did you get a deck with it?

No deck, just the tractor. Eventually I’d like to put a snow plow on it for the wonderful northern PA winters.

Check the driveshaft out good. The diesel motor beats them up pretty good. Lots of good upgrades for that engine on the starting system. Ask before you replace any starting (including key switch) or glow plug parts.

Hopefully the injection pump isn't stuck. This bio-fuel we have now will do that. As far as similarities to a Kubota and a 7.3L..... well, they're both indirect injected, and they both burn diesel. Outside of that, nothing similar.

Not to be a pain.. But, All the 6.9's were IDI. however the 7.3 were made in IDI and direct injection. Also, depending where you get fuel in the country.. Its not all Bio. In many places in the summer its still regular 40 cetane non bio fuel unless it is specified on the pump that its bio.

Ok.
The 7.3 powerstroke made after 1994 was a direct inject. But it also used HUI injection system.... which would not be anything at all comparable to a mechanical pump Kubota.... so there you go. If you want to go by that engine, then the only thing they have in common is they are both diesel burners.

Yes, it depends where you are from as to how much bio mix there is in the fuel. But if that thing ever had off road fuel in it, like it came off a farm.... then it more than likely had bio fuel in it.

LOL.. no disrespect intended. Just pointing out they were built both ways.. And yeah.. The bio wreaks havoc on any older pumps. And I'm not so sure its good for the newer ones either. I burn Jet A in my trucks with additive.. They run great on that!

I'm not a fan of low sulphur fuel. I think it's harder on old pumps than bio fuel is. Bad storage habits is usually the problem with bio fuel.... but not always.

Absolutely, you have to put additive in. Some guys say some non detergent 10 weight works as an additive, but I have never tried it. The Jet A fuel is closer to number 1 but without the lubricity. I only use it because I get it cheap "airport FBO's cost" which is about $1.75 a gallon cheaper than at the pump.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
