Hello again,

Jeff, yes I see now that I have to move the stop forward and have about 1 1/4" of forward travel available.

Jonathan, yes the rear tire pressure is a bit different by sounding. The left being slightly lower an I will raise it's pressure. The tread looks even from side to side. Thanks, I can see how the back end could make a noticeable difference.

ONE QUESTION I have is about the new paint on the piston rod. I am guessing I don't want to ram that through the seals ...
- I was wondering about getting a chemical stripper to prevent causing a leak.

Also, regarding the QA-42 front mounting plate, there is currently some room to go down, and I would imagine that some, slight rotation is possible there.
Though, this is premature and not somewhere I want to go, and having not yet made the recommended changes, can anyone comment on tweaking the blower via the four mounting bolts?

- The reason I mention it is because the left skid of the blower is currently sitting on a block and the right side is still not wanting to fall (I've checked and there is actually no tension on the lifting rod).
I've had it sitting this way since it was installed and we noticed it wouldn't sit flat on the ground.

Thanks again.

It appears from the photos that the blower mounting framework is not far enough back. There is suppose to to be 2 Frankenstein/shoulder bolts that the rear slots are suppose to slide over. Do you have belt alignment issues as well?

Hi Cubs-n-bxrs,

There's no problem there with belt alignment.

I can't see how it would be possible to move the attachment to the rear. The next bolt hole in the frame is about 3" aft. And the forward plate(adjustable) of the two mating blower mounting plates is right up tight to the casting surrounding the grill - about 5/8" away.

Also, if it were mounted ~3" backwards, to the next hole, the downward angled bar of the blower mounting gear would come in contact with the chassis. Current clearance there is about 1 1/2".

That setup is not correct. The whole area where the cylinder connects to the lift arm is not right. Also, the cylinder isn't correct. Finally, the lift rod for the blower isn't correct. Look through the hydraulic unit manual and see how it's supposed to be. Link is below.

You should look in the implements section of the library. Your tractor is missing the shoulder bolts.

I see the bolts, they are on there.
Lance is correct on the aforementioned issues.

After zooming in about 250% I see they are there. My mistake.

Thanks for the photos! Super helpful.

Well that setup is....interesting. It's definitely not factory, but that doesn't mean it won't work.

Looks like they took the hydraulic lift bracket and modified it. Also looks like they painted the cylinder fully retracted to the stop, but the stop wasn't set all the way forward. You're not going to want to run that cylinder any further in until you get that paint off.

As far as the front goes, I'm not aware that there really isn't any adjustment to be done up there for leveling. The 4 sliding holes are for the gearbox and plate it mounts on to slide down to provide tension on the belt to the PTO. The blower is in a fixed location in relation to the mounting bracket in the front, and the only thing it really does is pivot on the lower frame mount. That pivot shaft, and the lift arm is the entire assembly that attaches the blower housing bracket to the tractor on those QA-42s.

If it's not going all the way down, and the lift arm isn't holding it up, the only things it can be are that the blower isn't rotating down all the way on the pivot shaft, the pivot shaft is messed up somehow, or the bracket is somehow bent or it's somehow mounted to the blower crooked. It's a really simple system so I have no idea how it's not going all the way down.

If there's something sticking in there, it's possible that the rod will work the way they have it set up there and you wouldn't need to adjust that stop or worry about the rod going further into the cylinder.

Edit: That looks like a lift cylinder out of a QuietLine to me.

A couple comments
1) you should be able to thread in 1/2-13NC bolts in the open hole to mount the thrower in between you where you bolted the thrower to the frame and the frankenstein bolts.

2) your tilt may be due to the 1/2" bolts that secure the auger housing to the frame of the thrower.

3) you may be able to scrap the paint off the cylinder rod with a razor blade.

4) your lift rod is "quite inventive". The piece that is welded to the rod should have the large hole thru the footrest tubing and the top hole should bolt to the cylinder end. The rod would normally attach the the middle hole.

Since it's already winter, just work around it and straighten it out once all the snow melts in the springtime.

Yes, clear to see now how far from original this lift and hydraulic set-up is. Hokey, despite not using hay wire.

Thanks for the Hydraulic Manual link Lance, plus observations darkminion.
A different cylinder for sure, etc. etc.

Gompers, my bad, my misunderstanding on the gearbox plate.
Yes the system is so simple. I can't see anything the matter with the pivot shaft - no excess wear.
I have not yet tried to determine if the mounting frame arms are out of parallel with one another (yet, even if someone backed their truck over the thrower ... how would you bend one of those arms without destroying the auger and housing ? It's not pretty but doesn't appear to have ever been in a hit and run).

But I will sight the arms, and will look at how free the gear box plate is from side to side.

Jeff, the auger housing is well attached to the thrower frame, and I will add the second set of 1/2" bolts per side to the tractor frame.

Thanks all.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
