Todd,
You are right there at it! Take the suction tube loose and I think 6 more bolts and the whole pump assy will almost fall off the transaxle... then you will see the mystical cork gasket... prob not much left of it

Zippy, you gonna pull the axle tubes while you are at it? I was rather surprised how much water was in the ones on my 1811, glad I pulled them. I went ahead and drilled return holes as well. Mine has been torn down for 2 weeks. Hopefully I can pull the pump Sat. and then start putting it all back together.
While the back half is out, I'm going to check the bronze ball thingy on the flywheel. Fortunately all my rag joints looked fairly new.

Okay Jay, sounds easy enough. Are/is the pump heavy to where I should have a strap around it on the hoist when I remove it so it don't end up crashing to the floor. I can only use one hand cause the other one has to hold me in the the chair while lifting...
Just want to know what to expect.

I think so John, seeing I'm elbow deep I might as well. Just add axle tube gaskets and seals to the parts list.

Todd,

With your situation I would say utilize overhead lifting help or an extra set of hands. Better safe than sorry. Those pumps are awkward and heavy enough. Keep at it!

Zippy I personally am amazed that you can do such great work all while sitting in a wheel chair. Have you ever thought of a strap to hold you in place while you work. I removed the hydro from a 2072 and they do weigh a bit, like you need two hands to hold it. Have you thought of a pad or cushion covered in plastic under it in case it does slip out of your hands.

Sir,standing the tranny on the rear cover and then remove the pump that way as you can use a strap to lift the pump off,they weigh about 40lbs.

That's what I'll do. This away I can use the lift to pull it off... Your a thinking Master of Lew.
Going to pressure wash it before I begin disassembly. Tomorrow seems like the perfect day. 35*. Going to start snowing Sunday, and 20's next week, so tomorrow it is.

I like Lew's suggestion... That thing may be a bit heavy to do with one hand... but you probably have Popeye arms and hands
