You can hold short parts in the rubber flex collets you just need the the rubber plugs that go in the back of the collets. ken

Picked up and installed a DRO ( digital read out ) for my benchtop mill off ebay.

I ended up installing the glass scale and reader in the front of the X axis ( left/right ) as there wasn't enough room in the back.

Should make life a lot easier for me making parts for you folks

Agreed, I was working with a pair of 2" travel indicators. If the part was longer, it was "fun" resetting the indicator or moving the part and verifying location.

Now I have more DRO movement than table travel ( only by about 1/2" each axis )
