Default 1641 eng troubles

I just picked up a 1641 was told it was only running on one cyl. checked it out and fired it up with no air filter in it and the lid off the aircleaner,it runs good and sounds good took for a ride, turned on the 44in. deck and it has good power. Now the issue,i put a new air and prefilter on and it won't run,if i take the sealing plate off the filter it runs good, when running if i put the center plate on, it starts blowing oil into the air cleaner and dying almost instantly. What could the cause this problem? Thanks

Did you check out the crank case breather? Maybe the read valve is bad?

That's interesting, wonder who made the bad air filter? Never had that issue.

Never heard of that before.
Glad your 1641 is up and running, I think you will like that machine. I really like mine.

Never heard of a coated air cleaner? What brand was it?

A new air cleaner and foam pre-cleaner is on my to-do list and I'll avoid the brand you discarded.

Very interesting. Is this coating or covering something that can be seen? You have to wonder if the filter problem is result of manufacture, storage or sabotage.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
