QA42 questions
I just picked up an 1811 and am looking forward to some snow removal with it this winter. I bought a QA42 snowblower and a snow blade about a year ago but never used the snowblower because I had a cub cadet 680 with manual lift and it was just too heavy. Can I hook up the QA42 to the 1811 as it is and use it or do I need to do anything else to make it work right. I was told I may have an issue with the pulley but other than that I didn't know if I needed to add a spring assist or anything else. Hopefully I won't really need it but if we have another winter like we had last year it'd be nice to be able to use it! Had a hard time pushing through the 3' snow drifts last winter with the blade and turf tires with chains on the 680!

Your thrower is the wide frame version right? You need the larger pulley, corresponding belt, and the curved upper lift links if yours doesn't have them already. I had a post on this subject last winter as I converted my Dad's thrower for his 1811. I have to do the same this fall for my thrower for my 782.

The QA42 will NOT fit in your 1811. A QA42A will.

I'll have to double check to see if its a QA42 or a QA42A. It came off an IH cub cadet 1200 which is a wide frame. The belt that runs it the guy gave me was broke but I'm pretty sure it's a half inch belt. He just gave it to me as a reference for buying a new belt. What's the difference between the QA42 and the QA42A?

Just went out to the barn to check. It is a QA42A! It does appear to have a half inch pulley on it though so I'll have to look into that article you posted SS5150.

First, the difference between the QA36/42 and the QA36/42A is: The QA36/42 is strictly a NF snow thrower. The QA36/42A is "Adaptable" for either NF or WF tractors.
There are two things you need to use on your QA42A on your 1811. (A) The drive pulley will have to be changed to 5/8" pulley. and (B) the upper support arms will have to be changed also to the "curved type". Make those changes, and then enjoy your snow thrower.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
