Good things to consider....

Pros: 1) Great job cleaning up the lawn of clippings, etc. (Your lawn will look a lot better) 2) Adds value to your mower/tractor 3) It is not permanent, so if you don't like it you can run without it or remove it

Cons: 1) Having to continually dump it if you have a large amount of land to mow 2) What to do with all of those extra lawn debris (clippings, leaves, etc.) 3) Parking in a garage/shed--it will take up more space 4) More things to break/break down and have to find parts for if it does break down.

I did my best to come up with a brief list. Others will chime in and provide more ideas/reasons.

Thanks!, I haven't pulled the trigger yet on this because I'm getting 3 different answers from 3 different dealers one of whom is CC Corp them selves!

Something to do with early and late model differences in the way the pick-up chute attaches to the deck. You wouldn't think a 2011 model 54" fab deck would be that much different than a current model 2100 series tractor!!

If not having clippings on the lawn is your goal you may want to check this out.

http://www.meg-mo.com/

I had a set a few years ago and they chop up the clippings very well.

Consider this:

o Lawn clippings are actually very good for your lawn. They decompose quickly and add organic matter back into to the soil.
o You lose about 30% of the fertilizer your put down with the clippings.
o Lawn clippings do not contribute to thatch buildup.
o You spend money on the bagger, waste part of the fertilizer which cost money, spend more money to put organic matter(compost etc) back into the soil to replace the one you removed.

I'm thinking more for spring and fall clean-up and those times when you just can't get it mowed when it needs mowed, you know, like when it rains a lot, or when you spend a few extra days on a trip and don't get back in time to avoid a "hay field" after you mow.

Certainly , not for every week usage.

A bagger wouldn't be needed too badly if you mow often.
Isn't that one reason for a 54" deck, riding?

Never or try "never" to cut off more than 1/3 rd of the grass off at a time; i.e.: 6" grass mow down to 4". More of a cut hurts, injures, stunts growth.

If you can, bag, vac or blow clippings away whenever you can. Always if you have the equipment and time, clean it up.

Long clippings will smother lawns, thatch.

Get grandsons who wanna mount up 'n drive.

I try to make my 1st cut down the center, back again off center. Always blowing the clippings away.
Yes, this is double cutting the clippings too. Makes the clippings small, rapidly breaking down.
One side of my yard is a huge hedge row. Clippings are mulch.
Other side, low branched pines, clippings are mulch.
Clippings are off the lawn surfaces. Turf grasses need to release gas, breathe if you will.
Dead grass clippings will kill your lawn or at the least, invite weeds.

If you're thinking occasional use, another option would be a lawn sweeper. It's quick, does a great job, no clogging, and you don't have to get off the tractor to empty it. Plus if you change tractors you can still use it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
