321 46" deck vs. 44C and sub-frame?
I have a chance to get a 190-321 46" mower deck and sub-frame from an early 1641 for almost nothing and I probably will go ahead and get it.
My question is, would this be any better deck than the 44C that I currently have on my 1450 and what combination of sub-frame would I need for it to mount correctly? My 44C is the newer style with 4 wheels instead of a skid for the front. Would the 321 be set up to run faster? I have never been too impressed with the performance of my 44C, even after I rebuilt it and put on gator blades. It just doesn't seem to get rid of the grass like I think it should. It still has the baffles or whatever they are called behind the blades and they are in good shape and it does not have the deflector shield in the discharge end.

Comparing the 44C deck to the 46 GT deck if that's what you have.
The 44 C typically does a nice job of cutting and spreading the clippings. The 46 GT deck is a high vacuum deck that cuts well, will work fine with a bagger but it will windrow your grass clippings. I've never tried to mount a 46 GT deck below a 1450. I'd almost bet it won't clear the tractor frame. The PTO drive belts are different size if I remember right but it's been a long time since I messed with a 1450. I'd try to tune the 44 C in to suit me if I were in your shoes. |

It will fit, it will work, but when you go to raise the deck the results will piss you off.
I can say you will be replacing the rock arm that attaches to the lift cylinder and it suuuuuuux. Looking back (10 years ago) i wasnt as observant as i should have been. The sub frame has a stop that could b removed by cutting thru a few welds. I believe that would allow it to work ok... That said, your 44c is a good deck, but the gt46 is more versatile ( cuts wet grass better, more suction to lift the grass when cutting, used with a bagger eliminating an external blower, and has a nicer guage wheel set up, but they are LOUD! 2 to 3 times louder than a 44c The biggest reason for a gt46, IMO, would be for a bagger. They do work swell in that department. Hope this helps |

They're really that loud? I thought the 44C was loud. I guess I might find out tomorrow.

46 GT deck is loud from wind noise. Not bearing noise.

I have both decks and for what it's worth, I use the 44c to cutgrass and the 46GT to bag/mulch leafs in the fall.
The 44c works ok with the stock pulley on my 1250 and ok with the stock 5/8" belt pulley on the 782. The 44c works really much better on my 1250 when using the smaller "speed up" pulley. The overall deck speed with the speed up pulley doesn't seem much faster than the 46GT does stock. The 46GT does cut much better, however it is very loud and does windrow very badly, even if the grass isn't tall. Chris |

To the op, grab that deck while you have the chance. They can be an expensive item. |

I think a 46GT would be hard on a single cyl Kohler. With a strong running KT17 II, I know the 46GT is there. When I ran the 44C the 782 hardly knew when it was running. Chris |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
