Mower deck belt issues
Hi everyone - hoping you can answer a question.
I finished fixing up a 104 and slid the mower deck under for the first time. The belt I have is the stock IH-490489-R2 but when I hooked it up it is way too tight. The center pulley is the stock one with a dia of 6.25". Sadly I had this same problem with a 109 I had where I had to buy a longer belt. Was hoping to stick with Cub parts. Has anyone had this problem or know what the issue is? Thanks Richard |

Richard:
A 42" deck, on a 104 Tractor uses IH 490489-R2 Belt according to the Parts Manual This is provided, that you have the correct Mule Drive and Undercarriage. Pictures of your setup would greatly be appreciated.

I think I have one of those belts that I don't need. It should be about 85" long.
I'll check and if you want it I'll ship it to you.

Pat - thanks very much for the offer but I think I've found the right length belt.
Thanks to everyone who replied. I love this forum. Richard |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
