Default 1782 issues

I've been having a few issues with the 1782 aside from the driveshaft bearings. First it's real slow in reverse, this has been a slight issue since I bought it. I'm thinking maybe hydro fluid and filter and possibly trunion is out if adjustment. Next it's started this after the peacock plugged up. I repaired that issue and replaced the lift pump with one slightly more capable. That said if I'm mowing and shut it down or it stalls when I fire it back up it will stall when I engage the pto and act like the battery is dead. Let it cool for 20 or so mins and its fine.

I mowed this evening and never shut down just disengaged the pto and had no issue. I did notice the temp light came on so I decided it was time for rest and a bath. I pulled the dirt screen and it was filthy as was the radiator. I cleaned the screen and pressure washed the tractor trying to remove the years of grease and grime from everywhere. I have a hydro fluid leak behind the dash and need to find where that is.

I know I have a lot of info and queations worthy of another post but this is my first running smoker so what I learn here I can apply to the 782d basket case.. Thanks in advance..

There is a service bulletin to fix the slow reverse on the cyclops tractors, I know Lew has that info so maybe he will chime in or you could send him a pm.

Earl

Just a heads up I put temp gauges in my 2182's and 1782. They all got hot and never had the light come on. I suggest that you put at least a temp gauge in it and do not trust the light.

when I got my 1782 I had issues with it shutting off intermittently, ended up being the shutoff solenoid needed to be adjusted, I had to bend the rod as it was holding tension on the shutoff solenoid and not letting it move fully to the on position, and any little bump would kick it off. take the lever loose with it in the run position and make sure it can fully extend.
I've also noticed the supers seem to have a slower reverse. both my 1782's are that way. I haven't redrilled the linkage hole yet to try that.

I plan to do that. I have a nice gauge purchased for a truck my kid bought but sold prior.

Mine is adjusted correctly, I've watched it to be sure what it's doing. That said after doing the major bath I found the power plug is a plastic plug on one side and splice blades on the other. My suspicion is as the tractor heats up the tape holding them in place expands loosening the connection. Once cooled, it shrinks back into place. I'll be at the parts house tomorrow searching for a male and female plug set up and properly splice them in.

Hey thanks for that link too. I didn't see it at first. It has a ton of bulletins that apply to these tractors.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
