When checking trans oil level, do you screw the dipstick in. or not. I look in the owners manual but either i missed it or its not there. Thank you for your time.

I don't recall seeing it listed anywhere how to check the oil.

Normally when checking most all oil reservoirs, the stick is seated for an oil level check.
And a 1/2" makes no difference as far as oil level. Other things---- well I'll not go there. |

If you have a push in dip stick remove, clean, and push it all the way in to check. If you have a threaded dipstick remove, clean, let it sit on the top of the tube and check. This per the Kohler manual.

Seated, is as normal operating position.
Or put in it's place, screwed, pushed, poked, or stuck where it otta be. Clear as mud? Don't over think this, we are not going to check precision injection of of a medicine, it's a reservoir, give or take a bit ain't gonna hurt nuttin' They do build in a lot of leway |

I don't screw it in. On a screw type dipstick, fluid level is usually checked not screwed in. Example: B&S motors, and any Honda ATV/motorcycle. But I do somewhat agree with George in that it's a hydraulic reservoir and not critical at all.

Thank you Guys for all the replies. I have the screw in type, when checking the hydro oil, it is really hard for me to tell where is it at on the stick. I have been thinking about adding some dye or food coloring, so I can read the stick.

Try placing the dipstick on a paper towel without wiping. The oil will leave a spot indicating the level.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
