Ballpark value on a 1862
What's a round about value for a 1862......I'm thinking of trying to bring it home with me this week.
Runs and mows, has approx 2000 hours, 54" deck, plastic is rough (broken/cracked and rigged back together), power steering works, hydraulic lift works, has a fair amount of surface rust. Thanks in advance

$200. Sorry.
IMO, the best thing about that tractor is the Sunstrand to run the PS that you can swap over to something like a clean 1641. Second best is the 54" deck if it's not rusty. I've converted a couple of raggedy 1862/1864 tractors to a 1641. Makes a nice machine. |

The guy wouldn't go any lower than $550..... he ended up saying that he'd keep it to plow snow with.

You did the right thing on walking away. It is not worth 550.00 unless he parts it out. The engine, at 2000 hours is tired.

He was asking $750 on the ad and it had been posted for about a month.... We talked for a while and he told me all the particulars about it and sent a bunch of pictures. I told him that in my opinion, due to the hours, plastic damage, rust, general desirability, etc....it was about a $300 tractor.
He said he understood, and was disappointed, but wasn't mad or offended.... He offered it for $550 cash or trade, deciding to keep it if he couldn't get that. I saw last night that he's re-posted it again, asking $600 or trade. I suspect that a guy could trade just about anything for it.... His words to me were "anything except firearms or appliances....if I can't use the item, I'll sell it to someone".

I paid 450 for my 1862. Came with a blade but no deck. 600 hours. It's an ok tractor but my 1440 runs twice as smooth and it's just a B&S twin. Probably not a deal but I wanted a small utility tractor with power steering. Sometimes my 7265 with fel is just a pain in tight spaces and a little heavy for riding on the lawn.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
