Default Three point drag

Tried out the project 1872 yesterday dragging the garden. I reworked an old JD steel drag to attach to my three point hitch. It worked well after I removed the braces from the a frame and replaced them with chains so it could float. It also worked well for leveling the driveway. I need to switch the hydraulic connections on my control valve so the three point lift cylinder can float.

Farmall Fred, make sure to create a post when you rework your hydraulics for float. I would like to do the same for my Cub. The drags look like they cover a good area and would work well.

I wish I could find one of those drags. The ones I have are just linked together with hooks.
Yours looks great!

This one was part of a three section drag that attached with hooks and short chains to a 2X8 that in turn was hitched to the back of the tractor or disc etc. I just reworked it so I could attach it to my three point lift.

My three spool valve has a float position on the one valve position. I just need to change some lines around to use it on the cylinder for the three point. Only issue is it will put the lever for the center rockshaft next to the steering wheel and that is opposite of what they are normally. I may take the hyd valve off and see if I can swap the float detent to one of the other positions. Probably not but it will not hurt to try.

FF - are you using the 3 spool JD valve that has float on one spool?

I thought the conversion to a float 3 point hitch only required moving a pin in the hitch??

I built this drag when I had a 1872 & 3PT hitch,,,

The drag was a Sears hitch, I converted to CAT "0",,,

I still have it around here,,, somewhere,,,

Yes I am using a JD three spool valve and it has float on one position. Problem is the spool that floats uses the control lever closest to the outside and that spool controls the rockshaft for the mower lift. I could switch the hydraulic lines around but then the controls would be different than the other cubs with two spool valves.

You are right if you are using the rockshaft cylinder to control the three point. I have a three spool hydraulic valve and installed a lift cylinder for the three point inside the frame

If I cannot swap the float detent on the control valve I may try to modify the upper pin hole on the lift cylinder by making a new end that is slotted. I have a couple of spare cylinders I could try it on.

Iirc, you can move the float detent to any spool.

Otherwise use a 12v selector to run your belly lift and cat 0 on the outside lever. Then you will have the extra lever for extra remotes on the back or front or both.

Works very well. Has been done before!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
