This is the belt you need for a 1x8/9 and 42" deck: IH-490489-R2 -1/2" X 80"
You need either the OEM belt, a Stens tru-blue, or Gates power-rated green belt. Normal hardware-store belts will not hold up. |

I'm not convinced that it is. I've had a lot of these things, all had 1/2" belts.

Matt I need to look at this a little closer I guess because I have a 1/2 by 81 and it too small....Its brand new I had for another lawn tractor that I dont use anymore It was dark out just now when I tried it so I need to look at in morning. But this deck came from a 104 that had a 3/8 belt thats where I came up with what I thought was right.

Well if anyone is intrested what worked was a 1/2 by 83 I put it in and mowed about a half acre with no issues at all...In all honesty its probably about half inch too long.It even adjusted out about right...I still confuzzed about what it should be but it does not matter anyway in a month I'll have the correct deck for the tractor under it with the correct belt. And Diz your belt is a 3/8 by 80 according to the part number and it was listed for a 1x7 series tractor. Thanks for the replys....Randy

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
