Better blades?

I am running a 44C deck under the 149 that mows Mother in Law and My yard every week. It has the small belt pulley on it. It has a good set of original blades but in thin grass they don't lift well and of course in the thick stuff they leave a lot of clippings windrowed. I was wondering if anyone has tried mulching blades and high lift blades with better results? All the baffles are under deck so unless there are mods to the deck that I can do kind of stuck with that. I remember the 108 Dad had windrowed bad, cause He wouldn't cut grass enough, in taller thicker fescue. Any tips on making a 40 year old deck cut a little better? I think the new pulley is the speed up pulley too, but will check that.

No takers? I sure don't want to waste money on blades that don't help, but I would think a newer style blade should help.

I've used the gator blades for a while and they seem to lift well, but you have to block off the discharge to get them to mulch

I don't run anything but Cub Cadet blades. They last a long time and cut good. I don't have any "windrow" issues with them. Several guys here run Gator blades and talk highly of them. I haven't ever used them.

Same here. Cub Cadet blades are great quality. Keep the mower deck underbelly clean, keep your blades sharp and knowing that in the spring when the grass is nice and green and juicy....you will have to clean that deck more. A dirty deck and dull blades are the bane of a poor cut.

I use gator blades and have tested them cutting a few strips and then changing to conventional.
What I found was the gators make smaller clippings so they tend to disappear easier, but as they wear the sharp"finger" edges become dull and seem to be the same as regular blades.
After I sharpen my gator blades, I use a cutoff wheel to also sharpen the "fingers" on the blades and that helps restore the smaller blades of grass advantage.
As far as windrowing, no windrows, it blows out full coverage of the discharge area.
I live on a farm not better homes and garden cover page type of place.
The grass gets cut cause it grows, not my favorite 3-4 hour chore a week.

I really don't care what it looks like, I used to run cows on the place and my cutting was an hour @ most, now I retired and the cows are gone, so I cut the green stuff.
In the fall gators eliminate leaf raking, best thing since sex!
They chop the DRY leaves so fine they disappear, it don't get any better than that!
( I do block off the discharge chute with an old license plate)
Now that is my story and i'm sticking to it.

When Y'all talk about cub cadet blades are you talking new ones or the original old blades? Is there even a difference between the originals and the new blades as far as lift? I mulch leaves in the fall, just takes 10 passes to make them pretty much go away.
As for the windrowing, it discharges good, but they leave a lot on top, nothing like what the new mowers seem to leave. Deck stays clean and blades sharp. The clippings are a lot worse in taller grass of course, and I know it ain't no zero turn modern deck. Just wondered if I could do better. Thanks for getting in here with knowledge, lots of it to go around at this place.

I had a set a few years ago on a 1641, they worked great. I sold that tractor, unfortunately they don't make them for the Habans or I'd have a set.

X2. The baseball field nearby has a good old gravely with a set of those on and it really mows nice

What is unique about the Haban deck , looks like they make them for everything bigger than 18" and not timed?
