149 & #1 Tiller belt
Any one using a gates AX144 belt on a 149 & #1tiller? I saw that some one was using it with a Cub 125 and wondered if it will fit my outfit. All input appreciated.
My local NAPA can't cross reference the IH-549250-R1 part #. Have a great day. Bob |

The IH-549250-R1 is the correct belt which is by dimension: 13/32" x 143-7/8".
A "section A" belt is over 1/2" in width. It would seem that it would not ride in the Pulley grooves correctly. BTW....the IH-549250-R1 belt is still available from CC.

I'm using an AX144 on #2 tiller and a 129. I was under the impression there was not much difference in the #1 and #2 gearbox/mounting setup. The 1/2" belt does not seem to ride high enough in the grooves to cause any problems. Everything is a little thinner/smaller these days it seems.

Thanks for the responses. I know that belt is still available. Would not be using the tiller all that much and am trying to save a little money. If it works on a 129 & #2 tiller, it should work on what I have. Thank you both for your help and have a great day.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
