Default 129 Brakes

Just got this 129 a little while ago, the engine had some problems but was fixed right away. After using it for another day or two, i noticed the brakes went working and it was stopping entirely by force of the Hydro. After a good look under, we found the problem is that these arms are locked up, any idea on how to free them?

Most of the time a hydro will stop by the transmission/hydro unit before the brakes can even think about being activated/having time to stop it. I think most hydro machines have rusted up brakes because nobody ever mashes the pedal down unless cranking (safety switch) or locking brakes for hauling. I don't know the set up on a 129, but our 128 has external brakes on the end of the axles--so I would imagine yours is the same. I have ran into a 782 and a 1811 that the brakes required disassembly so everything could be freed up proper. Don't know about yours but be careful applying heat if you have cast aluminum compnents--you don't want to know how I figured that out.

PB Blaster is 10 times better than WD40. Spray on the "moving areas" allow to soak for 5-10 minutes, then work the parts free. Re-peat as necessary.

+1 on Kroil. The downside is the price but there is no substitute.

Kroil stinks awful,but works great
WD 40 is WD = water dispersant ) not a penetrating or lubricant oil.

try 50/50 ATF and acetone. Has worked better than any penetrant Ive ever used. Cheep too . A quart of each will yield a 2 qt mixture and last a loooong time. Acetone draws the ATF into the deepest ,rustiest areas.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
