No start issue
Hi there I have a cub Cadet original that my father in law recently gave me and I am having issues getting it to start. The motor does turn over fine the starter engages with no issue replaced oil plug and wire and cleaned the fuel bowl and lines. I pulled the plug and grounded it out and found no spark. Any ideas?

Everybody has their own way of doing things so here is what I would do. I would remove the points cover and run a piece of fine grit paper between the contacts and see if that doesn't solve the issue, the points just might have some corrosion on them and need cleaned up. If that doesn't work your going to need a multi meter so you can see if you have 12v going to the positive side of the coil when the key is in the run position. Start there and report back.

80% of the time, it's dirty points. That's my first step, too.

Little new to these old mowers. Where is the point cover? And I did check and I have 12v to the positive side of the coil.

If you’re looking at the air cleaner it will be the 7 o’clock position from it on the engine. Small vertical cover with 2 screws. Follow the wire from the negative side of the coil, goes right to it.

The guys have you on the right track.
Welcome to OCC. Are you from the same town as Hazel Sig? ( If you are you will get that, otherwise you will think I’m an idiot. So will everybody else!)

Hopefully you found the points cover but here is a picture for you. The thing with the red button is the points cover.

As if anyone who has no idea what they are looking for will find it. That wasn't really very helpful.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
