Finally got around to getting the 1864 off the trailer yesterday. Replaced the starter with one I had from an organ donor. Battery is dead, no problem I have battery. Get that done and nothing, WTH. Then I notice a small toggle switch on the dash. Oh good we have a PO mod. Well lets just say that the wiring will be going into the trash can. Unplug the wiring to the engine, jumper the fuel shut off solenoid and hook up my trusty starter test button to the solenoid on the starter. Pull the air cleaner and notice that one of the bolts that holds the base to the carb is missing. Hope that didn't go into the engine, guess we will find out. Squirt some gas in the carb and crank it over. It fires right up just like a real one but won't keep running unless I continue squirting gas into the carb. OK probably a plugged fuel system. Go get a small gas jug with a hose and fuel filter, hook that up to the pump and try again. Same deal, stops as soon as stop squirting gas into the carb, WTH? Notice it's not sucking gas into the filter. Back to the shop for my sprayer that I have converted to use as a pressurized gas supply. Put some gas in it pump it up just enough to push gas into the carb only 1 or 2 lbs. Crank it over and it lights right up. All the important stuff works works as it should. Drove it around for a couple minutes, put it in shop, unhooked the gas and let it run dry.
I will be pulling the engine out to give it a good cleaning. It will get rewired. A new fuel pump and the standard fuel system cleaning and fuel line replacement. Probably some gauges. Clean and repack the CV joint on the steering. New fluid and filter for the hydro. And what ever else I run into.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
