K321 marked as K301
Right now I have what I assumed was a k321 block with the 1.380 exhaust valve in it. Today I was assembling it and noticed that the block had K301 cast in it. Has anyone else here seen this? I'm kinda wondering now if someone installed a larger valve in a K301 and bored it to 3.500.

Did you get from a cheating puller that got busted? LOL.

A machinist once told me he used to bore K301 blocks to 3.50" all the time, and increase the exhaust valve size as well; mainly for pulling. He said it used to be a fairly common thing to do...
I have never seen it done but my experience is limited. |

That's kinda what I'm thinking.

My thought is if this is what was done it was a lot of work for no gain at all. Installing the bigger exhaust valve doesn't do much good.

Those who don't know I guess.... And I think the guy who told you that he used to bore 301 blocks to 3.5" was FOS. They aren't cast heavy enough to do it and hold, if you don't punch through. He was likely boring the 341 block. That one you can. Only some of the 241 blocks can be bored to a 301. Austin, I'd say you found a block that someone bored and put a bigger valve in. Kohler did have K241 blocks that were marked as 301's, but not 321's marked as 301's. Not unless you got a factory screw up. Only way to know for sure if measure the cylinder thickness between the fins and see. I would definitely check it before I'd use it. Otherwise, it may break the jug off at the top of the block. Better safe than sorry. $$$$ |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
