Default Going price for a nice 169?

Hey guys, new to the forum but not to Cubs. About seven years ago I went through and did a ground up restoration on a 149 and a 169. Every nut and bolt was gone through and motors were rebuilt. My brother in law ended up wanting the 149 when I was finished. I still have the 169 but it really has only sat around and collected dust. I've only taken it to one show and space is getting tight so I'm considering selling it. I tried to do some research but didn't really find much on them I believe due to the rarity.

What would you guys put for a starting price if it were yours? I'm trying to decide if I want to sell it or just use it around the yard and keep it for my son when he gets a little bit older.

I have a 48" deck and carriage for it along with the original front tires/wheels which I painted along with the tractor. The original rear tires I robbed for another project. Rear rims were cut and widened, then powdercoated. Inner fenders were cut and narrowed. Block is a 13 fin and I played around with a little mild porting when I was rebuilding it. Everything was sand blasted, primed and painted with Cub Cadet paint. A lot of time and detail was put into this build.

That's a sharp 169! You did a very good job on restoring it! I think, sorry to say doubt you get your money back out of it though. Nothing wrong with it, just hard to recover your restore costs. That tractor will out last anything made today by 40 years! If it were me I would start out high. You can go down, but not back up. I'd start at $1700 call me crazy everyone, but thats my opinion. I'd rather give $1700 for the 169 that's like new than a new mtd crappy throw away mower.

Thanks guys. I know the game. I know it's not worth anywhere near what I have into it. I'm just trying to weigh if it's worth selling or just pushing it outside with a tarp over it and let my son play with it when he gets older. I hate to let it rot but at the same time I can't see giving it away.

This in wrong section. Should be in "What's It Worth?". Seen 169's go for anywhere from $100-around $2000 or so. The older cubs are always worth more in pieces than as a whole.

Very nice looking tractor. But it's more of a custom than a restoration, so it's a tough deal to find someone with the same taste that you have.
I wouldn't even begin to think what to ask. It's a matter of how bad you want it gone, or how long you care to wait to sell it. Put a crazy number on it and leave it up for awhile, and you never know it might be exactly what someone is looking for and down the road it goes.
If it don't sell fast enough, or you have no one interested, drop your price and go from there...
Good luck.

I agree with zippy1. Probably have more interest if it was restored to original. Custom builds are a tough sell.

Put a set of original wheels and tires on it and sell it, then sell the custom ones separate.
That would probably yield the best money with the least amount of work.
It's a very nice job. You did good work there!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
