Default Snowblower Wheels Location and Opinions

I put some 8" wheels on the front of my 451 in hopes of keeping the gravel out and not tearing up unfrozen turf . I lowered the blowers scraper onto a 2x4 to get the 1.5" clearance I wanted.



As soon as I was done I had another idea. I thought it may be better to attach the wheels behind the blower housing right behind the scraper edge. Then realized that I had a pair of brackets that I got with a WF plow, that I think someone made to attach it to a NF.





Then I thought about also mounting the skids that came with my ATV plow that I put on the 450 last year.



So, what would OCC do and what are your opinions? Wheels in the back, skids in the front or the other way around?

I think I would put the wheels on the front like you have them in the first picture and just leave the skid shoes off unless it tends to tilt backwards. I have been thinking about doing the same thing about my QA36-A.

Thanks for replying! I did some testing after I did the post today with just the wheels on and I have a couple spots with a high crown in the center of the road. So the scraper was plowing dirt, I think I do need the skids for added protection or raise it up a little more. I'd like to think I will be able to avoid those spots but we all know things look a little different with a foot or more of white crap on top.

take some round spacers and then the skids then the wheel in the existing slots in the skids so u can adjust the height of the skids and the wheel.

I was also concerned about scooping gravel with the 450 blower I picked up this summer. I build a wheel attachment that mounts behind the blower and utilized the skid bolt holes. I only had to drill 4 holes to mount the wheel bracket. I also used a 2x4 under the scraper blade to get the spacing I wanted. I recently re-graveled my driveway so my crown isn't too bad and I don't think I will have scraping issues. I think a combination of wheels behind on the lift bracket and skids on the sides is a good idea.
