Thanks Todd, The tins did come out very good. I let the epoxy cure over night and I sprayed three coats of 2K primer surfacer on all of the parts that will be painted red. I will let them cure for two days before block sanding and sealing for final paint. I then finished disassembling the frame to prep for paint. I got a shock when I removed the brake cross shaft, it came out in two pieces so I spent the rest of the day making a new one and de greasing some of the parts. Maybe I will get lucky and have it all painted by next weekend.
Have a good weekend, I know I will the beer is cold. Tom |

I decided to get the frame prepped for paint before painting the tins. I did not want to try to protect a bunch of freshly paint parts from dirt and potential scratching due to extra handling. Upon removing the paint I found some cracks in the frame near the axle mounting holes and many of the mounting holes were all wallowed out. I tig welded the cracks and after making a drilling jig I welded all of the mounting holes shut and re drilled them. After removing all of the paint and sanding it down I washed it with wax and grease remover and coated it with three coats of reduced black epoxy primer that has a UV inhibitor so it can be used as a top coat. It dries to a nice semi gloss finish. I have used in the past on auti frames and under hood parts. It makes a great durable finish. Here are the required pictures.
Have a good one. Tom Crack in frame and wallowed out front trans mounting holes. On the left side there were also cracked around these holes. IMG_20170212_171054.jpg Wallowed out axle mounting holes. IMG_20170212_171118.jpg Crack tig welded and holes filled with weld. IMG_20170213_150456.jpg Drill jig bolted in place. IMG_20170213_153602.jpg Stripped and cleaned frame ready for paint. IMG_20170215_161854.jpg Side view of painted frame. IMG_20170215_172230.jpg front view of painted frame. IMG_20170215_172253.jpg Next I need to paint all of the brackets, pedals, dash pedistal and the front axle so I cam final assemble the chassis. Hope to get them painted tomorrow. |

WOW!! Nice work on the frame... the drilling jig was a great idea!!
You are going above and beyond on this build! I am having fun following your progress!! It makes me proud to see someone who still has pride in their work and wants to do it right the first time! Too many people rush and cut corners these days and wind up with inferior finished products! But you my friend will not be one of these people!

Nice work Tom.
It is good to see the extra work put into the project, as Jay mentioned, good to see it done right the first time, and not cutting corners to just get it done. Well done thus far...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
