Welcome to OCC!
You have a good start and are to be commended on raising your son right,
He will long remember what he is learning, and with you.
Long after you and we are gone he will remember the things he learned and hopefully pass it on to his children and Gr children.
When you have a question, post it before you break something or make a mistake.
Then all learn reading this world wide!
You will not experience something that hasn't been encountered before by somebody.
Take your time, enjoy the journey, it is much more rewarding than the destination.
As far as painting, I have seen some beautiful " rattle can" paint jobs.
Some fellows prefer to leave things original with "patina" if they are not a rust bucket, but to each his own.
Carry on.
Grease stains on Jr's clothes and under his finger nails, beats the hell out of
needle tracks and tobacco stains

great idea! we have the shop space and we could do that. I will look into it! we def want to save money lol

yes, he is the oldest and we have butted heads but we bond on this stuff so it will be good. for his 13th (and his siblings) i let them pick a place they want to see in the US and i drive them there one on one.

he picked touring 3 JD factories in iowa and CAT in illinois. we spent a week together seeing the farms and country and seeing everything at the museums, and live factories. it was pretty awesome and he got back inspired to do the IH cub.

he LOVES these old IH Cubs. he loves tracors in general, and backhoes and any type of equipment and just wants to farm someday. He is a hard worker and mows and takes care of everything on a small 13 acre famr for his Pa. he mowes the big fields with an old CASE and pull behind mower and is VERY cognizant of safety and what to do or not to do.

But he is still young, which is isn't convinced of, so this is an oppurtunity to teach jim about money as well. he has to pay for everything for this

also thank you for saying we are raising him right. somedays it sure doesn't seem like it but they are all polite and respect their elders (not me so much at times lol), have to pay their way for the most part (we do provide food and clothing lol), and they have a love for things like this, the country, and the history.

especially my oldest.

i look at it as my job to prepare him for being an upstanding citizen willing to help anyone he can and making whatever he is working on better within his capabilities.

oh and he was SO excited and thankful this place exists, he really wants to jsut look at everyone's else's work and learn. which is how i got the pics so fast.

"They answered you Dad?, Yes they did

"Ohh, thats awesome, here are pics, show them, tell them thanks so much"!

IH1200, welcome,

In addition to the Service and Operators manual limks provided you by Mr. Bedell,
You will also find these helpful. The first is a parts manual for a Model 1000. It is
identical to the 1200 except for the 10 horse engine. The second link is for a 1250 but
it has you engine in it, the K301AQS. Those links were provided to me by member
Darkminion and are extremely useful. Download them and print them. The third link
is to a simplified wiring diagram for a 1200, drawn by Mr. Bedell and it is in the Technical Section.
Again, extremely useful.

I suggest starting a folder for your project, print all this stuff out and put it in the folder.
Take plenty of pictures before you take things apart that you can refer to when re-
assembling, because you will not remember every detail, trust me.

Lots of good people here to share and help you "enjoy the Ride".

Yes there is. It is on the main page under parts sources.

Welcome to the sight! I recently got into Cub Cadets and have caught the "yellow fever" bad.

The 1200 is a great tractor, I have one myself and am getting ready to pull it apart and refresh it too.

A couple suggestions, 1st, this series of tractors, known as the "Quietline" (800, 1000, 1200, 1250, 1450 & 1650), have an ISO engine mount system (rubber bushing and engine cradle instead of direct, hard mounted to the frame). Since you have a gear drive and not a hydro, it is recommended to replace the rubber mounts with solid ones. Our member, Jeff in Pa, can set you up. He does excellent machine work. While doing this, you'll want to do the engine cradle modification and replace the 3 pin flex clutch driver with a solid one.

If you your wiring is in need of repair and after 40 years, many do, we have a member, Llamar, that makes them. They are well made, easy to install and priced great!

Again, welcome and watch out for the highly contagious yellow fever.

Not a problem. Enjoy your project and the time with your boy. I've got 5 of them, Cub Cadets, not sons! My son likes them as well.

Congrats on the 1200! It's a great tractor. I have a 1000 which is one of my favorites. Lot's of things to fix up on a 40 year old tractor, and you're already well on your way with all the manuals/reference material.

The suggestion to go with solid motor mounts is certainly what a lot of folks do, but I went back with the iso mounts as my three pin driver plate was in pretty good shape. The predecessors of the 1200 (and 1000), both the narrow frames and the wide frame series, had solid mounted motors and a rigid three pin driver plate in the clutch. When they went to the Quiet Line series, (1200, 1000) the flexible mounts required them to use a flexible three pin driver plate in the clutch to account for motor movement on the rubber mounts. These flex driver plates are very expensive to replace, and the rigid driver plates are much more common, hence the reason to switch back to solid motor mounts.

The 10 and 12hp motors don't vibrate like the 14s and 16s so the solid mounts should work fine. If you need to replace the flex driver plate, solid motor mounts would be a good economical solution. The iso mounts are quite expensive as well, if you buy OEM parts.

Good luck with your 1200, and kudos for doing this with your son.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
