Beginning tare down of CH22 from 2284
First off, this won't be a daily updated thread. I had a few tonight after work so I popped the valve covers off for a first glimpse inside of the recently deceased CH22 from my 2284. I will continue on this journey as time allows but if you have any suggestions or thoughts, please feel free to post
All I got into today was the valve covers. I removed both the oil filler side and the other side. Let's start with the oil filler side. This side came off with ease. Next up is the starter side. This side, as the pics will show, had a bit of difficulty. I'm wondering if this played a roll in the motors demise. First bit of info: when we originally swapped engines, I found that one of the manifold stud nuts was missing This nut was missing on this side (it would have been the outside nut). Second thing as you'll notice in the pic, one of the bolts that holds the valve cover on was actually so stiff in removal that it broke off leaving half in the motor. I'm wondering if this caused an exhaust leak and let that side of the motor get overheated? Your thoughts are appreciated! So as little as that was, that's as far as I got tonight. Let me know your thoughts and if you have any ideas as to what went on with this motor. I will continue to update as progress...progresses

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
