Default 2182 axle tube seals

Both axle tubes were replaced as when I purchased it, the main issue was the left axle tube seal was leaking. You would pour fluid in, it would come right out. Easy enough job. Today, finally got to "use" the tractor and I mowed about a half acre of pretty tall, thick, wet grass. This thing is a beast. All was well. Wife told me to put it away so we could go out to dinner with my sister's family. Upon arriving back at home, figured I would go down and check on the tractor and maybe drive around the yard with my son. As soon as I opened the basement shop door I could smell the distinct smell of hydraulic fluid. The floor is covered in fluid. A quick check, the left axle tube seal is pushed out. There was absolutely no leaks when I parked it. I even checked a bunch of places on the engine and rear end with a temp gun before leaving. The left axle tube was at 110 degrees. There is no vent in the rear end, is pressure building and causing the seal to come out? I'm going to tap a vent in the rear end.

There isn't a vent a couple of inches to the right of the fill tube? If not you definitely need a vent.

I think the fill tube is vented. I ended up drilling and installing a separate vent on mine to help it fill faster.

IF....you feel there is a "pressure buildup" in the rear end case, operate the tractor with the Dipstick "loose" in the filler tube as a test.

Drilled the rear end case, tapped for 1/8 npt and put in a barbed fitting. Added 1/4 line to that with a filter on the end to keep dirt form getting in. The seal that had come out was new. I cleaned it up and the inside of the axle tube. Added bellows adhesive around the seal and pressed it back in, tapping it in with a seal setting tool. I'm going to let the adhesive sit until tomorrow to see how it holds.

I got the seals from my dealer, they came in a sealed cub cadet marked plastic bag. Is there something better? I got this machine with the left seal popped halfway out, now another one pops all the way out after being replaced.

Are you sure the bearings are good? Something doesn't sound right

Cub had 2 styles of that tube 1 had a snap ring against the bearing the other had the snap ring on the out side against the snap ring. What style do you have? Also the factory seals are pretty good, I've had trouble with CR seals leaking around the out side on axle tubes but never had a problem with an OEM seal.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
